Tax Justice Network: Rudolph Elmer, who leaked documents from Swiss Bank Julius Baer several years ago, was convicted of offences relating to the forging of documents and given a hefty fine by the Swiss courts. However, the silver lining in the judgement was that the court held that he had not broken Swiss banking secrecy laws, as he worked for the Cayman Islands subsidiary of the Bank. This judgement severely curtailed the global legal ambitions of the Swiss banking industry who believed their draconian secrecy laws had global effect.
